CAEAR Coalition Board Member Randy Allgaier Honored with NAPWA's Positive Leadership Award

April 23, 2010

Washington, DC - CAEAR Coalition congratulates board member and longtime HIV advocate Randy Allgaier on receiving the Positive Leadership Award from the National Association of People Living with AIDS (NAPWA) as advocates gather in Washington, DC for AIDSWatch 2010.

"Randy's contributions to our collective efforts to increase the nation's commitment to people living with HIV are tremendous and it is wonderful to see his years of tireless advocacy recognized by his peers," said Ernest Hopkins, CAEAR Coalition Chair. "AIDSWatch is tremendously important to building greater awareness of HIV/AIDS issues on Capitol Hill and it is especially appropriate that Randy be honored as a part of AIDSWatch."

Allgaier has a long history in HIV/AIDS advocacy. In addition to serving on the CAEAR Coalition Board of Directors as the representative of the PLHIV Caucus, he currently serves as the Director of the San Francisco HIV Health Services Planning Council and has served on a variety of boards of LGBT advocacy groups including the Human Rights Campaign and San Francisco-based AIDS service organizations. From 1995-2000, Randy was the Director of the HIV Advocacy Network in the Public Policy Department at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation where he advocated at the state and federal levels and managed a grassroots program that covered the 20 Congressional districts of Northern California.

The Positive Leadership Awards for 2010 will be presented Monday, April 26, at a reception for participants in NAPWA's annual AIDSWatch event and invited honorees and guests. For more information, please visit www.napwa.org.
